A scavenger hunt is a great way to get out and explore, learn, and to have some fun while doing it. This simple article will teach you how to make a fun scavenger hunt for anyone.

First begin by selecting a location. Depending on who you plan to make the scavenger hunt for, you may want to plan it in a different location. Grab a notebook and a pen and write down a few ideas.

If you are planning for adults on a date, you may plan a scavenger hunt around a mall or shopping center. If you are planning a scavenger hunt for children consider going to the library or a museum. Hunting outside in nature is a good compromise for mixed ages.

Once you have a good location, you will want to determine what your scavengers will be hunting for. Often times they are looking for a series of simple objects, but in more difficult cases can be required to find a word in a book, or a sign on the street.

The most exciting part of making a fun scavenger hunt is writing the clues. Create clues that are creative and require a bit of thinking. You might consider leaving out some of the words of the clue, creating a crossword puzzle, organizing them into a word search, or even scrambling them in a word scrambler. All of these options are available through a search engine online.

Finally, to make a fun scavenger hunt unique, you should take extra liberty to make creative clues. Make them on separate pieces of paper with the next clue at the destination, or perhaps mix them up. The possibilities are endless!

Chanterelle Mushrooms are a large, apricot-orange colored (though some varieties are white and even blue) and meaty textured mushroom whose flavor rivals the delicious Morel Mushrooms. It’s a tough choice between the two in terms of flavor and flexability of their uses–both are superior mushrooms to hunt.

If you’ve never went mushroom picking, you will need a few basic items to get started. Those are:

Permission to enter the location you intend to hunt for mushrooms at

Some government or private owned places also require passes or permits, so beware where you hunt

A clean basket or bucket (Baskets are better to help spread Chanterelle Mushroom spores)

A sharp knife – Best to use a pocket knife that closes to avoid any accidents should you fall

Knowledge of what you are picking and Mushroom Field Guide

Good hiking boots or comfortable shoes for the terrain you will visit

Proper clothing and emergency kit, including matches, compass and flashlight

Map of area if you are unfamiliar with location

Always have a partner in case someone gets hurt

Cell Phone to call for help

Many of these items are just common sense emergency preparation items, but you would be surprised how many people wander into the woods and never come out. So, let someone at home know where you will be and take a partner with you–stick together. It’s more fun teasing each other about who has the most Chanterelles in their bucket anyhow.

If you don’t know what a Chanterelle looks like you need to have a good grasp of that knowledge before you go hunting for them. Get books, use Mushroom Field Guides or go with an experienced mushroom hunter a few times until you are confident you know what you’re doing. Eating poisonous mushrooms can cause mild to serious illnesses and even death. It’s nothing to guess at.

One of my favorite mushroom field guides is, 100 Edible Mushrooms, but you can find many good books. Look for excellent photos and detailed descriptions of the mushroom that include when and where each variety grows. It is also very helpful for beginners if the book has good basic information about the parts of the mushroom so you know what the book is referring to when it mentions gills, stems, caps, etc.

Another suggestion, might be to harvest them and then take them to an expert or experienced mushroom hunter to examine before eating them. However, it’s easier to identify any mushroom in the woods than it is in the bucket because you can see the mushroom in its natural surroundings.

There’s an old mushroom hunter saying, ‘When in doubt toss it out.’ It’s a wise rule of thumb to follow.

So, you are ready to go hunt for Chanterelle Mushrooms. The best time to look for Chanterelles is in the fall, though you can find them earlier sometimes. In the Pacific Northwest, the best time is usually a week or two after the end of summer rainfalls start flowing. In Washington, they flow pretty good. Chanterelles will continue to grow until about the end of October, usually dying back after the first hard frost. I’ve found a few after light frosts, but not enough to warrant freezing toes and fingers.

Chanterelles need a good bit of moisture before they start peeking out of the ground. The rains have to make it through all the trees before the forest floor gets its share of moisture and so the two week regular rain flow is a good estimate to use before going out the first time that season. If you find mushrooms and they appear dry, then go back to the same area after a few more good rains. The forest floor shouldn’t be crunching under your feet.

Wikipedia.org has a basic, brief explanation and photo of one variety of Chanterelle–the Golden Chanterelle. This will give you an idea of what you are looking for, but be sure to use a guide and other reliable sources.

Most Chanterelle hunters believe in cutting the Chanterelles at the base and leaving the root. Some hunters are now suggesting to use a twist and pull method, then trimming off the root end and leaving it in the woods. It is known that Chanterelles spread by the millions of little spores they release, which is why it is better to use a basket than a bucket when you are harvesting them. Each one you place in the basket is spreading lots of spores about everywhere you walk because the spores can fall through the basket. With a bucket they can’t.

So, to cut or not cut is a current debate among hunters, but my experience has been the Chanterelles have kept us well supplied in the areas we have cut to harvest. In areas where evidence of others pulling them up by the roots was found, the Chanterelles did not come back as heavy the next year.

Chanterelles grow in wooded areas under conifers. In the Pacific Northwest, they are more abundant around Douglas-Fir and Western Hemlock trees. We’ve found them in old growth forests, second growth forests and never in open, dry clear cuts. They tend to grow better on a north facing slope. Look at the trees in the forest. Examine the moss growing on the tree trunks. Did you know that moss usually grows heavier on the north side of tree trunks? It does and Chanterelles are found more often on that side of the tree than any other.

We find more Chanterelles in little clearings in the forest than we do where the underbrush is thick, though we have found good patches in sparse underbrush with scatters of salal and ferns. If you enter from an open road or clearing, the patches are generally heavier about 100-200 feet within that border. We’ve discovered Chanterelles like growing in the sunlight dancing through the trees–just a sprinkling of sunshine.

If you’ve ever been in the woods and come to an area that allows a small amount of sunlight to cast down on the open, mossy covered ground below, you’ve been in a good place to start looking more closely for Chanterelles.

Follow small deer trails or dirt hiking paths and watch for Chanterelles just off the edges on both sides. They seem to pop up in your view when you least expect it. You want to look for the Chanterelles bright, orange coloring. Maple leaves will fool you every time, so that is a good example of the coloring you are searching for.

If you find one Chanterelle be sure to inspect the entire area around it in all directions. Where there is one, there are usually more. We’ve also found you can find a bit of a trail or line of Chanterelles. You find one, then look around, find another and keep heading in the same direction. They seem to grow along the same line–whether it is due to the perfect amount of moisture or sunlight is unknown, but just an extra tip to get your basket filled.

After years of hunting Chanterelle Mushrooms you will begin to recognize the prime growing locations more easily and quickly. You will feel your stomach start to tingle with delight knowing you are in perfect Chanterelle country and another tasty mushroom is just around the next tree.

Investors are always on the pursuit of places with favorable market conditions because it really does sound like the safest places to put their money into. Being able to identify places with good market conditions and investing in these places are a good thing, however, market conditions are not the only factors to consider. Sometimes, a good factor for many might not be very lucrative for you. Conversely, what sounds unfavorable for many, is good for you. This is another crucial skill -the ability to see gold mines in the other people’s dumpsters. An area’s economic landscape, no matter how sturdy, how strong, and how seemingly lasting, can change in a blink of an eye. Get a feel of the place’s people, character, assortment of its infrastructure and how long the place has been existing.

A neighborhood’s age is good and bad depending on its existing condition. An old neighborhood with an established reputation will have its very old structures come at a high rate. You can do a bit of renovation and turn it into something that will arouse the interest of the tenants. You won’t have to worry about it flopping anytime soon since the reputation has been standing sturdily for decades and decades. On the other hand, if you decide to venture on a new neighborhood, which is normally the preference of investors, you’re taking a risk. You might be able to buy your land and properties at a lower price, but the place have yet to prove its stronghold.

As someone who wants to make serious money out of investing, you have to bear in mind that it is impossible to deal with something you don’t know. Don’t listen to hearsays, fads, hypes and sorts of things on the same string. Before you invest in a place, be sure you know the place by heart. You can have advisers, consultant, whatsoever, but that doesn’t mean you’re not getting your hands on the business anymore. Spend some time with the area, observe the market conditions, the people, the competitors and the pricing, just do your homework. Chances of flopping are very low if you know you’ve painstakingly studied everything.

Based on what you have observed from living in the vicinity, you can then gain insight on the area’s lucrative possibilities and even acquire the ability to compare it with other prospect neighborhoods out there. You can write down in a sheet the advantages and disadvantages of this area over that area, and see where you are most comfortable in starting a business and investing your money in. Logic and reason are not the only factors you have to consider in investing, especially if you’re on a sole ownership, where all processes and decisions are directed and consulted to you for approval. You can also use a little bit of gut feeling. Your body is designed to sense if danger is coming. I’m not saying it is right all the time, but it can be right, especially when the intensity is too strong. See, if you’re uncomfortable with an area, your gut feeling is telling you that you don’t like it and you have to a start business somewhere else. The idea is somewhere along that line.

Outdoor activities attract millions of devotees requiring what seems like an endless list of parts and pieces. Depending on the sport or activity, the list of essentials can be expansive as well as expensive. Let’s look at the mandatory field equipment, and outdoor hunting gear needed for a safe and successful hunting trip. Personnel preference and experience give the hunter basic knowledge of what to expect and what to plan for and the minimum amount of hunting supplies that are needed.

Depending on the season, supplies will differ from hunt to hunt. Fall seasons are bird dominant. Upland game bird season for instance begins in the early fall when temperatures can still be high and cool clothing and plenty of fluids are a must. A comfortable hat or cap, trousers and shirt that will protect from the sun and sun screen to protect the skin are important outdoor hunting gear pieces.

The novice or beginning new hunter has several needs. First and most important is a valid state appropriate hunting license and second is the appropriate fire arm and enough ammunition for the game to be hunted, and this is only the beginning. The new hunter needs to acquire several pieces of outdoor hunting gear. A good sharp folding hunting knife, a small compact first aid kit, and ample water for the time afield along with sufficient snacks will help keep the energy level up and fatigue down to make the day more comfortable. Many states require hunters to wear safety orange to give other hunters visual info to prevent accidents. A blaze orange cap and matching game vest keep us visible and identifiable even in low light conditions. These hunting supplies are not just necessary they are mandatory.

The farther away from home the hunter goes the more important outdoor hunting gear becomes. An inventory needs to be made that includes everything that might be needed, especially if the trip is an overnight event. A sleeping bag and camp stove with a good supply of fuel, light weight folding chairs will give creature comfort and the stove will provide hot food when hunger strikes. Correct cooking utensils and groceries will be on the inventory list. A quality ice chest and supply of ice to keep perishables cold and fresh for camp enjoyment are all part of good hunting supplies.

Hunting a new or foreign area will require a good compass and a powerful source of light after dark. Getting lost can be hazardous, and a compass will help prevent that along with a powerful pair of two way radios will all but assure the group they will be able to stay in contact and aid the hunt by giving info as to where and how many game animals or fowl are available. If you travel any distance at all, things forgotten or left at home will be quickly missed and this is why a complete inventory of <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/4781694']);” href=”http://www.gonehuntinggear.com/”>outdoor hunting gear</a> is a must before you leave the house. Medications, a good comfortable pair of hunting boots or shoes and an extra set of clothes along with socks and underwear keep us healthy and civilized on any hunt.

Hunting supplies and equipment that are essential are the best items to bring. Asking other experienced hunters what they need and use can keep the collection to a minimum and still provide the most for the least. Keeping weight and bulk down while working the hunting field help the hunters have what’s necessary for enjoyment and success. Too much is as bad as not enough.

Do you want to become a proud master who has trained the dog perfectly to follow his instructions? It is a possible task provided you get to know some information and directions in this regard. Dog training is not an easy affair and needs a thorough knowledge and understanding about the dog’s behavior. You need to develop and infuse some sets of command on the dog. The dog will respond to the commands immediately provided you give adequate training to them in this regard. In due course of time, the dog will develop a greater response to your requirements automatically.

Dog training should come with an objective in order to give efficient training. The object of the training may be for infusing basic obedience and submission or may be for hunt, military, entertainment or for livestock. The dog must be taught and shaped based on the reason to get the top result out of it. Generally, a dog does not have the necessary discipline on them. One needs to train them sequentially to bring them in configuration with your wants. A good fundamental training is necessary where six behavioral patterns are put in their training. The six acts are stay, sitting, recall, heel, close and down.

When giving dog training, one need to be alert about the things such as not forcing them to a great extent through hostile means to make them budge to your orders. The dog may turn out to be hostile with the time which is terrible for both the dog and the individual giving the training. They react and grasp things well and sooner if you make them stress-free by giving them a superior environs and a safe and secluded place. If you place them in the center of things that does not go well with them, they would show least interest in the training. Provide them the required space and it is guaranteed that things will be much simpler to hold for you.

Something to remember is that a mature dog might have some problems with sight and hearing that need to be taken into consideration when training. Be sure you speak your commands loudly and that the dog can easily see you signals. If you are far away out of your dog and call him and he does not come, it may be while he can’t hear you and not necessarily because he is not obeying the command.

Dog training can be given using various methods. You need to keep talking to your dog. Make it short and simple. Instruct them on the dealings they need to do upon the command given to them. As time goes, they will quickly respond to the orders instructed. The trainer should also be talented to identify the signals from the dog. In many cases, the dog may display bewilderment, worry or interest over a specific message from the coach. The trainer must find out the reason and immediately retort to the signals duly. This will help the dog to a great degree and guidance and the coaching method will also be put to them easily.

You need to be alert of the some vital things with regard to dog training. The dogs are like human beings in some ways. They like incentives which will stir up their progress further in such case. Their wishes are very simple. Offer them prize with something they like each and every time they do things precisely the way you wanted them to act. You can give them some of their favored foodstuff, give them a toy to play with or let them to go around with other such dogs. These would rouse them to do things the exact way every time so that they get the importance from the master.

Hunting on the Cheap

One problem is buying an affordable rifle. With gas, food and other necessities of life going up who can afford a new rifle. Actually there are a couple of choices out there for someone who wants to buy one good hunting rifle. Many new rifles cost anywhere from to 00 dollars or more which is beyond many first time or low budget hunters. You might want to buy a rifle for a youngster and don’t want to spend a lot of bucks because he might not stay interested in the sport. Yes the expensive rifles are pretty and accurate but pretty have never killed the first animal. For a good reliable and rugged rifle where do you go? You can try and buy a used gun but that might be a crap shoot if you don’t know the seller or what to look for. Why is he selling it? That is a question that needs answering among others. If you know what you are doing you might make out ok. However for someone who wants a new rifle there are a couple of options. One option is to buy a single shot rifle made from Harrington & Richardson. They are plain no nonsense rifles that shoot well and are accurate. They come in a verity of calibers and list for under 0. I have a couple and like them very well. If you prefer a bolt action rifle then you are in luck. There are several out there that list for between and 0 dollars. Sometimes you can get a package deal that includes a scope to sweeten the pot. You might wonder how good these guns are after all what can you get for a measly 0?In a word A lot! I have shot the Marlin XL7 and the Weatherby Vanguard and they both will do the job that they are designed for. The Marlin runs about 0 while the Vanguard goes for 9. They both come in good hunting calibers such as the 270 and 30-06. These guns mentioned plus the TC Venture are all very accurate rifles. I have shot all three a lot and they will shoot as well as rifles costing several times as much. The Vanguard also comes in some magnum calibers but we will avoid them as a cost saver and magnums are not necessary for the game animals that we are discussing. If you live in an area with big bears then you can’t go wrong with the 338 Win mag. As for a scope, if you shop around you can get a good one without selling the kids. Get the best one you can afford and if you are not going to take long shots a fixed power of around 4 X would be less expensive and can handle shots out to 200 yards or more depending on your skill. Most game is shot within 200 yards many at much less distances. If you stay in the woods a 100 yard shot is a long one.

When selecting a caliber select a non magnum and something common such as the 30-06,308 or 270. All three are very common and will take care of the hunting that you will be doing. A 338 magnum is nice but it’s hardly necessary for deer besides that ammo cost will give you sticker shock. The others are widely available and will be cheaper to buy though not as cheap as formally. Ammo prices have skyrocketed like everything else so grab your belt when you shop for rounds. With the 30-06 and 308 you might be able to buy some military ammo to practice with. Try Shotgun News or Cheaper Then Dirt for some buys. While good for practice military ammo is not suitable for hunting however it can be used for practice from various hunting positions. The bullets don’t expand nor readily bring down a big game animal. Some states prohibit it for hunting with good reason. The other downside is it might be corrosive so clean your gun accordingly. Occasionally you might be able to buy some at a gun show at a decent price. The problem is you want good ammo at an affordable price and have a reliable source as well. Another thought is the military ammo will almost certainly hit to a different point of impact to your hunting rounds so a scope adjustment will be in order. That is true with most rifles. Different loads seldom hit to the same point of impact. However factory ammo is a very expensive proposition unless you are King Midas. What do you do as you know that you need to practice and sight in your rifle?

The best and most practical way to obtain good ammo is to reload your own. Contrary to popular rumors it is not dangerous as long as you use a little common sense. The only downside to reloading is the initial cost of getting started. Also if you don’t pay attention to details then reloading might not be for you. The little details make the difference between ammo that works and ammo that doesn’t. The initial investment for quality equipment is in the neighborhood of 0 getting quality items. Items that are not of quality make are not a bargain at any price. You do need some equipment such as a press, scales, dies and a powder measure. Other smaller tools are necessary and at least one good reloading manual are necessary items to get started. Before you start read up extensively on the subject. You might know someone who does it which will put you up a step. Maybe they will let you use their equipment to see how it’s done. You might be able to buy some used equipment at a gun show but be careful that you don’t get obsolete stuff that you can’t buy spare parts for. You will need to buy bullets, cases, primers and powder. There are various catalogs such as Midway, Huntington and Graff and sons to shop in. To save money buy in the largest quantities you can afford. If you have a buddy or two maybe you can all get together and buy your items. As for bullets all you need is the cup and jacket verity. There are many fancy bullets out there but for deer size animals they are not necessary. Some of them can cost a piece which will jack up the cost tremendously and are not necessary. Cases can be loaded several times unless you overload them. If you buy the powder in 8 lb kegs and primers by the sleeve (5,000) you will save some bucks. If you can’t swing a sleeve of primers but them by the thousand which will save you some loot verses a pack of 100. Some companies such as Remington and Winchester offer bullets in bulk and they are good buys. They are the regular cup and jacket bullets and they will kill any deer that ever walked given good shot placement. If you feel that you need more penetration buy a heavier bullet which should do the trick without buying an exotic bullet. Once you get going you ammo cost will go down to a fraction of factory fodder which will allow you to practice more and that is always a good thing. Another upside about reloading is the satisfaction of making your own ammo and harvesting a deer or other animal. Another advantage to reloading is you can produce reduced recoil loads for youngsters or women. You can take a 30-06 or 308 and load 30-30 bullets in them to the same ballistics as a 30-30 and they will work well. There are some factory reduced recoil loads but they cost as much as the regular rounds.

Since we are trying to save money we will stick mostly with deer. They are the most common large game animal hunted and most states have public lands available at no cost. If you can find land to hunt black bear and pigs so much the better. There are guided hunts for all three species but you are getting into an area that some can’t afford. With this thought in mind we will stick with public or private land if you obtain permission to hunt there. Always be sure to obtain that permission to avoid a costly mistake. Some states might require written permission from a land owner prior to hunting there so check out the laws to avoid a fine. If you are going on an unguided hunt then you need to scout around the area prior to the hunting season. Spend as much time as possible looking for trails and rubs plus any other signs that may abound out there. If you are into tree stands take a portable and determine ahead of time which tree or trees you are going to use. Actually climb the tree to see the view you will have during the season. Always have more then one tree because if you are on public land some else might beat you to your selected stand. Always have a plan B or even C when hunting on public land. That way you will have a place to go. To be successful plan on spending some time into this and plan on some walking. If you can walk that extra mile into the isolated areas your chances of success will increase. Be sure to have an exit strategy in case you are successful. If you shoot a deer and can’t get it out due to lack of planning then you haven’t accomplished anything. A little thought plus some gear to help with that will go a long way. Having a companion is always a good idea in case something happens or you have to drag out a trophy. Like every other aspect of the hunt you don’t need to spend a lot of cash for that gear. I also would invest in some blaze orange clothing even if it’s not required by law. That might be the best investment you will make. Keeping these thoughts in mind will make your hunt an enjoyable and affordable experience.

With all the hype recently about people finding hoards of coins it’s understandable that people have gone out in force to buy metal detectors! But how easy is it? , Well from experience, not very.

There are several considerations that you have to bear in mind before you venture out with detector and shovel; some of those considerations are legal ones. Research is probably the most important element in any metal detecting or treasure hunting trip, visit your local library and have a look at some old online maps, there’s a wealth of information. Local knowledge is also very important , speak to the people that live in the area that your thinking about detecting in , quite often you will hear things like ‘they used to have a fair on a field over there years ago’.

Once you have managed to find a location the next thing is to get permission, remember that all land is owned by someone and you can guarantee that they won’t be impressed with you digging holes in it!

Knock the door of the land owner and explain exactly what you would like to do, use the countryside code and think seriously about joining a local metal detecting club. All these facts add substance to your request to get onto someone’s land.

I have taken out insurance though a local metal detecting club, it only costs a few pounds, but it could save your skin if you leave a farm gate open and the farmers prize bull goes running off down the road.

So, what about when you get that first magical bleep? , well most of it will be trash, old farm equipment, nails etc… But every now and again you are going to turn up a coin. Important, don’t clean it! Many collectors prefer the coin to be kept in the condition that it was found in.

There’s loads of online resources for identifying and valuing finds, research carefully and take steps to preserve your finds. Above all be legal, there are rules regarding the recording of finds and they must be adhered to. Apart from this, have fun unearthing the past.

The upsurge in popularity for ghost hunting and the paranormal in general has been spurred on by the massive number of reality shows and films that are made based on this same topic. Viewers are invited to witness paranormal goings on in various locations, some of them seemingly innocent and some of them steeped in local lore and carrying paranormal reputations. This popularity has spread out of the living room and away from the TV into the shape of amateur and professionally arranged ghost hunting trips.

The Location

Ghost hunting events tend to take place around historical buildings and locations because these are the ones with the longest history. Dungeons, castles, and even nuclear bunkers are also popular because of the atrocities and incidents that are believed to have occurred in them in the past.

Paranormal Weekends

As well as trips that last a couple of hours, it is also possible to enjoy paranormal weekends that give you a real insight into the paranormal goings on in a particular location. Weekends like this can also include some elements of education and learning the art of ghost hunting making them even more involved and informational.

The Guide

When choosing a ghost hunting event to go on, choosing one with a knowledgeable and skilful guide is also an important factor in ensuring that you get the most from the experience. Proper ghost hunting is an applied science and some of the best proponents have been studying the paranormal for ten, twenty, or even more years.

Corporate Entertainment And Events

As well as individuals and groups that are inquisitive of the paranormal, ghost hunting experiences can prove an excellent way to offer something unusual for a corporate event. Overnight investigations are especially popular and typically take place in some of the most haunted locations in the UK.

Memorable Parties And Occasions

Ghost hunting has become incredibly popular in recent years and not just on TV and in films, but for parties, experiences, and corporate events. Make any party, event, or occasion extra special and more memorable with a ghost hunting experience or a paranormal weekend.
